We are thrilled to announce the completion of our Pocket Forest at our Dublin head office, a project that brings a touch of nature to our workplace. Late last year, we had Pocket Forest, a Social Entrepreneurs Ireland (SEI) awardee, on site to kick off the project. We prepared the soil using the no-dig method and Pocket Forest returned recently to complete the planting phase.
A Pocket Forest is a small, densely planted area of trees and shrubs that mimics the structure and biodiversity of a natural forest. It is designed to bring the benefits of nature to urban areas, providing a peaceful and relaxing space for people to enjoy.
Our forest features 12 native species of tree and shrubs, including Rowan, Alder, Wild Cherry, Holly, Spindle, Hazel, Hawthorn, Alder Buckthorn, Whitebeam, Grey willow, Guelder Rose, and Dog Rose, as well as some native ground cover plants. All of our trees are Irish grown and, where possible, Irish seed. All of our ground cover plants are sourced from an organic nursery in Ireland.
Big thanks to our volunteers who helped on both days! This initiative will provide a peaceful and relaxing space for all to enjoy and we look forward to seeing our Pocket Forest grow and thrive in the years to come.
