DCC replaces oil-based products with renewable alternative HVO across various energy needs.
In August 2022, DCC Energy announced its UK roll out of renewable fuel from Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil (HVO) as a refuelling solution for its customers. The initiative forms part of DCC’s Leading With Energy strategy and saw Certas Energy become the first company in the UK to offer HVO fuel to heavy goods vehicle (HGV) fuel card users at the pump.
Certas Energy has been adopting HVO renewable diesel across its own delivery fleet. Following a successful trial at two depots, which saw almost 1,000 tonnes of carbon emissions cut from operations in just one year, Certas Energy is accelerating the use of HVO across its 900-strong fleet.
HVO is a drop-in renewable fuel that offers a cleaner way to fuel commercial on and off-road fleets that would traditionally use red or white diesel, with no engine modifications required. It supports customers in powering their operations more sustainably and provides an opportunity for diesel-dependent businesses to instantly cut up to 90% of their greenhouse gas emissions.
The roll-out of HVO across Certas Energy’s extensive network underpins DCC’s commitment to decarbonise our customer base.
At the same time as we were rolling out HVO across our UK depot network, our Certa business in Ireland was joining in.
Certa powered the big outdoor occasions of the Irish summer, led by the National Ploughing Championships – the biggest outdoor exhibition in Europe.
More recently, Amazon announced that Certa is providing the tech giant with HVO for back-up generation needs for its data centres in Ireland.
And Certa has switched its whole fleet of trucks to run on HVO.
Renewable HVO will be a growth area for DCC Energy in the years ahead across our off-grid markets for data centres, heavy goods vehicle fleets, off-road transport and as a clean alternative to kerosene for commercial and domestic heating.
