DCC initiative is first of its kind: offering HVO fuel at HGV refuelling sites
DCC plc, the leading international sales, marketing and support services group, has today announced its UK roll out of renewable diesel from Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil (HVO) as a refuelling solution for its customers. The initiative forms part of DCC’s Leading With Energy strategy and will see Certas Energy become the first company in the UK to offer HVO fuel to heavy goods vehicle (HGV) fuel card users at the pump.
Certas Energy has been adopting HVO renewable diesel across its own delivery fleet. Following a successful trial at two depots, which saw almost 1,000 tonnes of carbon emissions cut from operations in just one year, Certas Energy is accelerating the use of HVO across its 900-strong fleet.
HVO is a drop-in renewable diesel that offers a cleaner way to fuel commercial on and off-road fleets that would traditionally use red or white diesel, with no engine modifications required. It supports customers in powering their operations more sustainably and provides an opportunity for diesel-dependent businesses to instantly cut up to 90%1 of their greenhouse gas emissions.
The roll-out of HVO across Certas Energy’s extensive network underpins DCC’s commitment to supporting UK businesses on their transition to net zero.
Eddie O’Brien, interim CEO of DCC Energy said:
“This is another key development for DCC plc and our energy solutions business, Certas Energy, to be the first company to bring HVO, a renewable diesel alternative, to our customers at HGV refuelling sites across the UK. It is a drop-in, clean alternative for traditional red or white diesel users and will support UK businesses on their own journey to net zero.
“At DCC plc, we’re committed to providing innovative solutions to address climate change. We outlined our new Leading With Energy strategy in May, when we increased our commitments to climate change and energy transition. We announced new Scope 1 and Scope 2 targets having met our previous interim targets early. And we outlined our Scope 3 target to reduce our customer emissions to net zero by 2050, or sooner.”
Niki Holt, Head of Commercial at Certas Energy, added:
“Our nationwide HVO offering marks a milestone for our company and, more importantly, our customers. The renewable diesel alternative provides an immediate and simple carbon reduction benefit for businesses working towards cleaner operations – it’s simply drop in and go.
“This seamless fuel change means diesel-dependent industries can make a smooth, frictionless transition and realise significant sustainability benefits, without delay or disruption. We are proud to be leading with energy by offering a viable route for businesses looking to lower their carbon footprint, today.”
