David Byrne

Non-executive Deputy Chairman

David Byrne, SC, joined the board and was appointed non-executive Deputy Chairman and Senior Independent Director on 1 January 2009. He is a non-executive director of Kingspan Plc and serves on a number of commercial international advisory boards. Mr.Byrne is also Chancellor of Dublin City University, chairs the National Treasury Management Agency Advisory Committee and is Chairman of the National Concert Hall. Following 27 years of practice as a barrister, he became Attorney General of Ireland in 1997.  Mr. Byrne served as the first EU Commissioner for Health and Consumer Protection from 1999 to 2004.  Following this, he served as Special Envoy of the Director-General of the World Health Organisation.
