Job Title: Finance Director

Division: DCC Retail & Oil

Company: DCC Oil Ireland

Date you joined the business: February 2011

Previous roles within DCC: Group Internal Audit Senior; Project Accountant (Benegas, the Netherlands); Financial Controller (Fannin – Pharma Ireland); DCC Energy Internal Audit Manager (UK based)

What is your role in the Company?

DCC Oil Ireland, trading under the Emo and Great Gas Brands is one of Ireland’s leading distributers of oil to the domestic, commercial and retail sectors and operator of unmanned service stations. Key areas of my role include financial control, cost management, commercial support and investment analysis as we try to grow our business both organically and through acquisition.

What do you enjoy most about your role?

What I enjoy most is the variety. My role touches all parts of the business where collectively we look for new opportunities to provide better value and service to customers and to maximise the return to shareholders. A typical day could involve discussions with service providers to reduce costs/drive efficiencies, developing a proposal for a new investment opportunity and working on the business strategy with the other members of the senior management team.

In your opinion, what is it about DCC that makes it different?

In my opinion it’s the people and their collective drive for progress that sets DCC apart from its peers. During my time in DCC I’ve visited the majority of subsidiaries and seen firsthand the talent and commitment at all levels in the Group. With strategy and values led from headquarters, this cascades across the organisation where subsidiaries operate with a level of autonomy sufficient to hold on to the qualities that made them, share their own best practices and adopt others to fit their business.

What advice would you give someone considering joining DCC?

If you want to work in a dynamic organisation, to learn from people at the top of their game, and to have the opportunity to develop and travel across the Group, DCC is an excellent choice. When I joined DCC I started a career, not just a job, and have had the opportunity to work in different roles, divisions and countries, in a Group that has changed significantly over just six years, as I expect it will in future.

Job Title: Chief Operating Officer

Division: DCC LPG

Company: Butagaz

Date you joined the business: January 2014

What is your role in the Company?

Butagaz is a leading LPG* marketing and distribution company, operating in France, with over 80 years of experience as an energy provider.

After a career of almost 20 years in Downstream Oil and Gas, I joined Butagaz at the beginning of 2014 as Chief Operating Officer. My role is to build and operate a winning supply chain to strengthen Butagaz competitive position and support cash targets delivery, despite market uncertainties and regulatory challenges.

As COO, I’m leading:

  • Butagaz Metal Supply Chain: developing, purchasing and delivering tanks and cylinders to cover the needs of above 4 million packed customers and 200,000 bulk customers.
  • Butagaz LPG Supply Chain: purchasing LPG on the market and delivering it to our end customers. Just to give one key figure, this means dealing with over 500 trucks on the road every day.
  • Butagaz facilities network: 19 sites in France (import terminals, cylinders filling plants and bulk depots)

*LPG: Liquefied Petroleum Gas

What do you enjoy most about your role?

This would be a long list as I have a very enjoyable job, but just to mention a few items:

  • Being exposed to very diverse challenges every day: no routine in my role!
  • Leading a team of 250 people, ranging from plant operators to senior managers. People are our key asset and they are the ones making the difference. With such a large team, I have an essential role to play to attract the best talents, develop them and lead them to deliver at their best.
  • Being a member of Butagaz Executive Committee and hence being extensively engaged in building a successful future for our company.

In your opinion, what is it about DCC that makes it different?

In my opinion, DCC is truly empowering people, encouraging each of us to feel like being an entrepreneur at the head of his/her own company.

Once the objectives have been set up and agreed, you’re fully in charge. It is up to you to define the most efficient way to achieve them. This does not mean you have no support from the top, but you are free to think out of the box and propose innovative ideas and projects.

This efficient and motivating culture is consistently developed and encouraged at all levels in the organization.

What advice would you give someone considering joining DCC?

Be ready to join international winning teams, to work hard and to have fun! Being successful goes along with being demanding, and hence indeed, we will expect a lot from you, but in return:

  • you will face exciting challenges,
  • you will be respected and valued,
  • and you will get a unique opportunity to take significant responsibilities, even early in your career within DCC.

Job Title: Business Development Director

Division: DCC Health & Beauty

Company: Design Plus Health & Beauty Ltd (A Laleham H&B Company)

Date Business Joined: September 2015

What is your role in the company?

I head up the Commercial Team at DPH&B with overall responsibility for existing clients and new business. A specific part of my role is the development and management of the Que Bella Beauty own brand that the business sells exclusively through a US retailer. I am joint site-lead alongside our Operations Director and together we manage all aspects of the Lancashire based business.

What do you enjoy most about the role?

Whilst Design Plus forms part of Laleham Health & Beauty under the DCC Health & Beauty umbrella we operate autonomously, with guidance where it has proven to be helpful. I lead the strategy of the business and work collaboratively with my partner on site to ensure we’re equipped to handle all aspects of a client’s demands. The most enjoyable part of the role is seeing a positive team thrive around me in a stable, well invested environment.

In your opinion, what is it about DCC that makes it different?

Whilst our parent group is a multi-billion turnover plc their management style is far removed from standard expectations. Revenue targets are of course stretched and objectives set to challenge however the approach feels far from corporate. There are directives and policies that require implementation however the method of communication for the site is left to our discretion. We still feel very much the small business that we were pre-acquisition albeit with greater supporting resource to draw on.

What advice would you give to someone considering joining DCC?

Be prepared to stretch your ambitions. The opportunities are there within DCC for those who want them and who are willing to work hard for what they want.
